Hi
I am trying to add some photos but I am having blog fail….
When we first moved into this apartment I took up painting. It was an inexplicable urge that had to be dealt with. The master bedroom upstairs was transformed into BJ’s office / Becky’s studio. An old cheap rug was laid on the floor, and easel set up, and I began painting.
I am going to show you these paintings, because for now, I am retiring the paint brush.
When I first decided that I was going to be an art major, I thought I was going to be a painter – somehow, in my mind, if you were an “Artist”, you were really a painter. So, I signed up for painting. Basic painting, or introduction to painting, or something like that, with Charles Hardy. It was a class in oil painting, and our first painting assignment was a still life of fruits and vegitables.
It was miserable. I was terrible at it. I was awful at mixing colors, and I really had no composition skills, so I dropped the class within two weeks. And that was that. That was my education in painting. Well, oil painting I guess. I took a watercolor class with Susan Claffey, but I would hardly call it a class. Usually she turned on a PBS video for class, and left because “she had to go take care of her dogs”.
At that point I took classes in ceramics and sculpture, and simultaneously fell in love with the medium because it was more hands on, but I also had a strong love for figure drawing, I think because you could be so fluid with the shapes and not have to be concerned with color. Or, at least, I wasn’t concerned with color.
Well anyways, since we’ve been up here, I have done some ceramics, but have had an urge to paint. Again, I warn you. I am not a painter, and I am sensitive about showing them because I see so many flaws. But, I am done with painting for now and I’m going to be putting them away so I guess it doesn’t really matter. Just thought you’d like to see what I’ve been doing since we’ve moved here. I actually just got one of them back from an exhibit here in Portland.
Well, these are the big ones at least… and for some reason they are being rotated when I post them… I’ll work on it more a bit later.

Yesterday we visited St. Johns bridge and Cathedral Park. Beautiful day for fall colors, but it was very cold!
Well hello everyone. Sorry for the delay in posting. It is taking a bit of time getting back into the groove after all of the wonderful family visits we have been having this summer, and there is still one more to come! Which will be our visit to CO in a couple of weeks from now.
Anyhow, BJ and Becky both have some exciting new changes coming to our lives and we are working on some new things (No, we are not having a baby, so don’t even start to wonder). But we will keep you posted on what we are up to as time progresses. Right now we are just starting on some new things, and I always feel it is better to let things take off before you start rattling off your plans!
Well, we’ll keep you posted. Until next time…
We are in the process of giving our blog a little make-over. Nothing special, just a few little adjustments. Just thought we’d give you a little heads up.
I am a big fan of www.apartmenttherapy.com, and visit their website often, and submitted some of my patio photos for their summer contest “My Great Outdoors”.
I am delighted to announce that they have posted my submission. You can see it here: http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/sf/my-great-outdoors-2009/my-great-outdoors-beckys-perfect-portland-patio-087920

Along with the online posting of my patio, I am also receiving an AT Book and t-shirt! Thank you Apartment Therapy!
